Practicing What I Preach

What is a photography class if it doesn't keep current with trends, or practices that are pushing the creative envelope, or even just staying up with what employers/clients are looking for in a photographer?

With that as my impetus, I have decided to include a "Branding" assignment for this semester's Riverside City College Photojournalism class.  And I can't expect my students to do it, if I am not willing to take the plunge and put myself out there in the bloggers-sphere. So here goes with my very first blog post...

There were some wonderful opportunities for photography in Riverside CA  Saturday night.  The Art and Music Festival, sponsored by the Riverside Arts Council and the Downtown Partnership is the largest fundraiser in support for the arts.

I chose to key on the chalk artist Sarah McMenamy who spent a couple of hours working on this colorful piece.  Artists of all ages added to the chalk art along University Ave.

Temporary Art for Lasting Improvementsthe Chalk Art area on University Ave was one of the hot spots at The Art and Music Festival, part of the Mayor's Ball for the Arts, a fundraiser for the arts in Riverside CA. I saw a couple of students shooting as well which made my heart sing.  It is always such a challenge to get them to investigate what is happening locally and then actually attend.  I can't wait to see their photos.

And I couldn't pass-up the simplicity of the Love art

I did a bit of researching for this assignment and of course came across so many articles, but this one in particular struck a chord... from The Minimalists, http://www.theminimalists.com/blog/ I was inspired by their ideas, and their take on blogging.
